The Center for Co-Creation?and Research on Education?was established on October 1, 2020, in response to the rapid digitalization of society and the growing implementation of ICT in educational settings. As part of the national effort to promote the GIGA School Initiative, the center serves as a hub for advancing research and innovation in future-oriented learning environments.
The center aims to explore the future of school education through diverse perspectives, focusing on how ICT can enhance the quality of learning and educational support. By fostering collaboration among educators, local governments, private companies, and community organizations, the center seeks to create inclusive and sustainable models of education that support children’s growth in school, at home, and within the community. Key initiatives include developing effective ICT utilization strategies, analyzing the expertise of experienced teachers to improve teacher training and professional development, and enhancing digital learning environments.
The center comprises three specialized divisions:
-
Learning Community Research Division
Focuses on building networks among schools, communities, and children across Hokkaido, and on designing online learning environments and educational support systems. -
Active Learning Lesson Development Division
Engages in the development of digital teaching materials and innovative instructional methods made possible through ICT and online platforms. -
Teacher Career Design Research Division
Analyzes effective teaching practices using ICT and applies these insights to teacher education and various training programs.
While valuing the importance of warm, human connections and face-to-face interactions—the foundation of education—the center also explores digital approaches that can replicate or enhance in-person experiences when direct contact is not possible. By embracing both the analog and digital aspects of education, the center strives to unlock the full potential of digital technologies.
Through broad collaboration with institutions both inside and outside the university, the Center for Co-Creation?and Research on Education?envisions a future where all children can learn safely and joyfully, regardless of circumstances. It is committed to creating learning environments that protect the freedom and joy of learning for every child.
